Diagnostics

As pet owners, some of the most stressful and worrisome times can be when our pets are sick. Although Ansley is not an emergency clinic, we strive to provide whatever diagnostics may be needed to care for your pet which may include:

  • X-rays: Radiographic imagining helps our veterinarians evaluate musculoskeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. In addition, we offer dental imaging to detect dental disease (abscess, fracture, bone loss) under the gum line. We use state-of-the-art digital radiology that emits less radiation and provides clear, detailed images.
  • Ultrasound: We offer ultrasound imaging which is a safe and painless procedure that produces images and videos of the inside of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, can be a useful tool to evaluate internal organs in 3 dimensions, unlike radiographs which are in 2 dimensions.
  • Endoscopy: An endoscopy is a safe, routine diagnostic minimally invasive procedure performed with general anesthesia. This procedure can assist in a diagnosis for chronic diarrhea, gagging, vomiting, weight loss and loss of appetite. An endoscopic procedure allows a doctor to examine the inside of the body using a thin, lighted tube called an endoscope. The tip of an endoscope has a tiny camera and light to perform a visual exam of the full length of the gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach and upper GI tract. When needed, endoscopy allows special tools to be used to take tissue samples for biopsy, remove small tumors, and retrieve foreign objects.
  • Blood tests: During annual checkups and before any surgery or sedated procedure, we perform a blood test/wellness panel so your veterinarian can review your pet’s overall health. We offer a limited blood and electrolyte panel that can be done in-house to ensure your pet is stable. For all other tests, we send blood samples to an outside lab and can have results in 24-48 hours. Our doctors will call you with your pet’s blood work results.
  • Hospitalization: In more serious cases, we do have the capabilities to hospitalize patients. This may include I.V. fluids, oxygen, heart or respiratory rate monitoring, etc. Since we do not have overnight staff, we may recommend you take your pet home or to a 24-hour facility until we open the next day. In the unfortunate event hospitalization is needed, our doctors will discuss options with you on a case-by-case basis.
