I had my annual exam at the vet yesterday. My mom collected a stool sample from my litter box and brought it with us. Gross! I worked very hard to cover it up and she found it anyway. What gives?
I recommend for you to be tested at least once a year, usually at your yearly physical exam, for intestinal parasites. It is done by testing a fresh fecal sample, which is why your mom raided your litter box. We look at the sample under a microscope for eggs which adult worms shed in the stool. This is especially important for all cats that go outside, but indoor pets can be at risk since we can bring contaminated dirt inside on our shoes. So be sure to have your owner bring a fresh sample at your next yearly physical exam.
